The UK’s food poverty rate is among the highest in Europe. It is estimated that 8.4 million people in the UK are living in food poverty, despite the country being the sixth richest in the world.

According to the Trussell Trust, in 2019-20, a record high of nearly two million people in the UK used a food bank. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, countless families across the UK who rely on school meals found themselves struggling to feed their children.

Simultaneously, 3.6 million tonnes of food is wasted by the food industry every year in the UK; over 2 million tonnes of which is still edible and could provide 1.3 billion meals.

The Amir Khan Foundation partnered with FareShare – the UK’s largest and longest-serving charity fighting hunger and food waste - to launch the ‘Lots for Life’ auction. The auction presented 100 incredible lots to millions of viewers, followers and fans around the world. Showcased via the awardwinning ‘bid_in’ platform, the lots featured money-can’t-buy experiences, unique items and memorabilia, plus a host of tantalising prizes generously donated by celebrities, high-profile individuals and companies who have been moved by our cause.

All funds raised from our Lots for Life auction provided critical support to low-income households via our partnership with FareShare and their 22 regional centres. These centres redistribute huge quantities of surplus food – of the same quality you’d eat at home – through a network of 11,000 frontline organisations, spread across 1,900 towns and cities across the UK.
