Nobel Peace Laureate Muhammad Yunus Special Guest at Private Reception for Anuradha Koirala

Topping off a remarkable year for One Family, we were delighted when microfinance pioneer Professor Muhammad Yunus joined us for a private reception with Anuradha Koirala, the founder of our partner organisation, Maiti Nepal.

The once-in-a-lifetime reception was held in conjunction with the Amersi Foundation at St James Court, a Taj Hotel, and represented the union of two powerful minds from the humanitarian world.
Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 after founding the Grameen Bank and establishing the concepts of microcredit and microfinance, Professor Yunus is responsible for a host of innovative schemes which have benefitted scores of people living in poverty. During Anuradha’s recent visit to the UK, he was keen to show his support and admiration for her life-changing work in supporting thousands of victims of trafficking and sexual exploitation in Nepal.

The special event was also attended by One Family supporters and guests from the world of celebrity, business and philanthropy, including Mohamed Amersi, Laila Rouass and Ronnie O’Sullivan, Avnish and Anita Goyal, Peter Virdee, Seema Sharma, Paul Chowdhry and Mala Agarwal, as well as senior representatives from the Shiva Foundation, Arise Foundation, Thomson Reuters Foundation and C5 Philanthropy.

One Family Chairman Sharif Banna offered a warm welcome, and there appeared to be unanimous agreement from all present that a unique and memorable experience had been shared, which sparked deep inspiration and motivation in our collective cause for mankind.
